Lent

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mardi Gras and is now enjoying the rest of their normal (and a little less exciting) week! Today is Ash Wednesday, and although I am not Catholic, I still like to participate in Lent.

I think it's a good reason to challenge yourself and give up something that's really important to you. In the past I've given up soda (and never looked back) and last year I gave up chocolate (totally went back). It was hard at times, but it was for the right reasons. And it's that time of year again where I get to choose what I want to give up.

Thoughts ran through my mind like fast food, tv, and facebook but a college girl budget needs her fast food, scandal and sports are on tv and facebook is my go-to when I'm extra bored. And I really wanted to give up doing dishes (because I'll find any excuse to not do dishes) but that would be far too easy, and rather enjoyable.

So here's where it get serious... These were my final three choices: chips (I love me some doritios), alcohol, and shopping. What?! Shopping!? Yea you heard it here first folks.

My mom had always joked about giving up shopping for lent and I always laughed because it was nearly impossible. But it would be something really truly challenging for me. I even told my friends about it and they all laughed. Straight up laughed. 7 weeks without shopping?! Krista?! noooo....

But the decision is made! I am giving up shopping starting today. This means no clothes shopping (looking is allowed, but highly discouraged). Clothes include purses, scarfs, hats, shoes.... anything I can wear on my body. I'm sure my dad is rejoicing reading these wonderful words on the page because I will stay within my budget for the next 7 weeks.

I also wanted a reason to stop drinking (one that my friends and fellow bar-stars will accept). So along with no shopping, there will be no drinking. But that really isn's a challenge for me. So yay!

 7 weeks... 46 days... 1104 hours... 66240 minutes... But hey, who's counting?

Are you giving anything up for lent?

  1. I'm giving up cheese. It isn't going to be easy, no pizza for 40 days?!? Good luck with the no alcohol, I tossed around that idea, as well. Keep us posted!

  4. I really should give up shopping too. But I don't think I could survive giving up wine for that long!

  8. That's great! I'm giving up shopping, too! And desserts! I already feel like I'm going through withdrawals.

But you're right, it's for a good cause!

  9. I gave up shopping for Lent last year! (and in a moment of strength, decided to do the same this year...2 days down...) It is not an easy feat, but at least our wallets will be thanking us.

PS - are you suffering from IFB Con and NYFW withdrawals too? XX

  11. I wish you the best of luck with this! I did a no shopping January and I definitely caved two times because the store I was working at had a couple of things I'd been eyeing for a while on MAJOR sale. Otherwise I did great! I think I only spent around $40. NYC is the wrong place for a shopping lover to live!!

Can't wait to see how you do!
